Floyd Mayweather officially announced via social media that his highly-anticipated rematch with Marcos Maidana is a done deal on Thursday.
The bout will take place on Sept. 13 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and will be televised on Showtime pay-per-view.
In their first fight on May 3, Mayweather cruised to 117-111 and 116-112 marks on two judges’ scorecards. But the third judge scored the fight a draw, thus fueling the fire for an immediate rematch.
This will only be the second time Mayweather (46-0) has granted an opponent a rematch. The first being in 2002, when Jose Luis Castillo was given an immediate do-over.
The fight will also mark Mayweather’s first fight since leaving Golden Boy Promotions along with former chief executive Richard Schaefer in June.
